What was it for, and what did it do?

[ Straight-forward enough. ]

It uses the nanites to help curb my violent compulsions. Those were aleady better here than they were at home, because my power's gone. But- old habits die hard, right? I didn't feel like I could trust myself.

I haven't had any random thoughts about tearing people open since the procedure, so it must've worked on some level.

[devoutish]

Mm.

The killing of the man from your world wasn't caused by these compulsions, was it?

[ He looks at Alfie, then away. ]

You're sharp. Yeah, it was hard to not just decide everything was solved by murder. Take apart the problem until it makes sense. Fit it all together into a solution.

With the memories I got the last time I died, it became pretty clear- that tactic doesn't even work when I've got all my abilities.

[devoutish]

[Alfie nods, slowly.]

Yeah. Listen, I like you. I do. And I know Royce does. You're welcome to travel with us now until you meet you're friend, and you're welcome to travel with us again in the future.

[He sounds genuine here, but he also sounds like there's a but coming.]

[ Yeah, no one phrases things that way without having some concerns or conditions they're going to talk about. But having the reassurance that he's okay to travel with them is good. Alfie doesn't seem the type to go for empty platitudes, so maybe he could even take it at his word. ]

I'd like that.

[devoutish]

[Alfie nods again, then angles his head in Royce's direction.]

Hurt him, though, and it's not gonna matter to me whether or not you're in your right mind. Understand?

[termineur]

[ Well, that was less bad than he was expecting. He smiles a bit, and nods. ]

Yeah, yeah I do. Glad it's clear. Trust me, I'm not gonna plead insanity if the worst happens.

I've been warning people. In case the nanites turn off. You and Royce aren't at risk for that scenario, by the way.

[ Warning people was humiliating. But maybe between all the powers, someone could take him down before he hurt Al. ]

Yeah? And why not?

Because the compulsion isn't really for murder, it's to understand. A lot of the other people here are way more mysterious, biologically, than you two. So people like Al and Davesprite would be much more likely targets.

[devoutish]

[Alfie keeps a straight face, but that only ups his concerns for Royce. Does this guy know that he's half-elven? Probably not. Hopefully not. He makes a note to tell Royce to do all he can to keep him from finding out.]

Suppose that makes sense, what with the powered people on your world.

[termineur]

[ It was one of the many things Sylar heard and dismissed during his stint on Vicodin. Maybe he'd remember later. But if he has any self control at all in the future, he won't let it be a problem. He'd appreciate Alfie keeping quiet on the subject, if he knew. ]

Yeah, exactly. Once I understand how their power works, I can copy it for myself. I doubt that'd be true for most of the stranger stuff here, but- [ He shrugs. ] I'd still have that need to understand. Probably wouldn't help.

And surely, even if it were true for the stuff here, it wouldn't matter. We lose most of our powers, don't we.

[Well, the ones who have them in the first place do, anyway.]

Yeah, exactly. I'm not going to say I'm a helpless kitten while the nanites are doing their jobs, but- well, I'm a lot less dangerous. I pretty much exclusively focused on developing those powers.

[ Slight sigh. ]

I do miss them, still. You get used to carrying everything with telekinesis after while.

[devoutish]

Is not having them worth the trade-off of being sane?

[ Sylar shoots a shocked look back at Alfie before narrowing his eyes at a spot across the hall. ]

I'm actually going through with this, aren't I? It has to be.

[devoutish]

Good. Stick with it, then.

[termineur]

[ He's a little mollified by that response. He'd honestly been expecting to hear either that it was a useless attempt or that it was stupid decision. 'Stick with it' he can take. He lets a sigh of relief out. ]
