It's not the kind of paranoia MN poisonin gave him before, but after all that racket, who could trust things to stay peaceful? If that door opened, they'd have no way to avoid whatever was on the other side, and he only would have so long to throw him at it to try to save the other two...]

If you're doing the dumb thing and going it alone, you should probably make sure you have a suicide option. You're statistically more likely to come back that way, and you'd piss off whoever came to bother you.

Do you know why he thinks he's Moriarty? I know, death price, but it's usually a loss of something.

I can't say for sure. Perhaps it's a loss of control of the innermost, darkest parts of his psyche manifesting as a personality he is familar with.
